SPEAG has released DASY8 Module HAC2019. The new module provides a guided workflow that demonstrates the compliance of any wireless device with the latest Hearing Aid Compatibility standard ANSI C63.19-2019 and the latest Federal Communication Commission requirements. Module HAC2019 is also available for DASY6.
Demonstrating Hearing Aid Compatibility (HAC) is important for warranting the electromagnetic and operational compatibility of hearing aids and wireless devices. In February 2021, the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) announced the adoption of the 2019 edition of ANSI C63.19, the “American National Standard Methods of Measurement Compatibility Between Wireless Communications Devices and Hearing Aids,” which became effective June 4, 2021. The FCC is giving manufacturers a two-year transition period (i.e., until June 4, 2023) to adopt the requirements of the updated ANSI C63.19-2011 standard. It has also extended the volume control deadline to match this transition period. Beginning June 5, 2023, only test reports that comply with ANSI C63.2019 will be accepted.
Following SPEAG’s tradition of staying ahead of requirements, we started early with the development of Module HAC2019 for DASY8/6 users. This is a completely new software solution based on SPEAG’s latest graphical user interface technology that guides users through the compliance workflow by using specific Jupyter Notebooks. The DASY8/6 system is interfaced via a dedicated application programming interface.
During development, we have been meticulous in ensuring that we reuse as much as possible of the previous HAC hardware in order to save resources and costs for our customers. The only element that has been replaced is the audio interference analyzer (AIA), which has been superseded by the modulation and audio interference analyzer (MAIA) to evaluate the modulation interference factor (MIF).
DASY8/6 Module HAC2019 consists of four Jupyter Notebooks that represent the different steps of the compliance workflow:
MIF measurements with MAIA
Simplified verification of the radiofrequency (RF) test setup using RF emission calibration dipoles
Evaluation of the wireless device RF interference potential by determining the RF audio interference level (RFail)
Measurement of the baseband (audio frequency) magnetic T-Coil (Tele-Coil) signal from a wireless device.

MIF Measurements with MAIA
The MAIA allows verification of the MIF values used to calculate the RFail. The MAIA can be operated over the air interface using the built-in ultra-broadband planar log spiral antenna (supported frequency range: 698–6000 MHz) or in conducted mode using the coaxial SMA 50 Ω connector (supported frequency range: 300–6000 MHz).

RF Test Setup Verification
A dedicated Notebook has been developed for verifying the RF interference measurement setup. The user can select and optimize the measurement configuration in a list of predefined templates. Peak values are automatically detected for easy comparison with the measurement targets.

RF Audio Interface Level Determination
In Module HAC2019, the RFail is assessed using the (preferred) indirect test procedure described in ANSI C63.19-2019. A 50x50 mm region centered on the speaker location is scanned and the root mean square (RMS) electric field values are recorded at each point. Once the scan is completed, the RFail is obtained by adding the MIF value to the average steady RMS field strength averaged over the measurement area.

Baseband Magnetic T-Coil Signal
The Jupyter Notebook developed for baseband magnetic T-Coil testing guides the users through the measurement steps described in the ANSI C63.19-2019:
Validation of the measurement equipment using a telephone magnetic field simulator (TMFS) or a Helmholtz coil
Determination of the wireless device drive levels for each audio signal
Measurement of the desired magnetic field with a voice-like signal (desired audio band magnetic (ABM) signal)
Measurement of the frequency response at the maximum location of the desired ABM signal
Measurement of the undesired broadband audio magnetic signal (undesired ABM signal)
The T-Coil coupling qualifying strengths, including determination of the primary and secondary groups, as well the magnetic field frequency response are computed by the post-processor and are available for visualization and reporting.

The Canadian Government issued a Notice on January 8, 2020 clarifying its position on the acceptance of SAR measurement standards for wireless device certification. It has reviewed the new IEC 62209-3 standard and concluded that it is currently not adopting this standard.

In order to comply with the requirements of the upcoming IEC 62209/ Part 3 SAR testing standards, SPEAG has set up a dedicated laboratory for calibrating ‘dry’ SAR testing systems at their manufacturing facility located in the heart of Zurich. The laboratory complements their already existing and well-established ‘wet’ SAR system service centre.
In response to several user requests, SPEAG has added a quick and intuitive measurement setup feature to its cSAR3D software that is optimal for quick & easy measurements as needed in R&D applications or for special analyses. Verkotan has developed a real over-the-air GPS field test environment into the test laboratory. The test (patent pending) has been developed in close collaboration with the Centre for Wireless Communication (CWC) at University of Oulu, the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd, and SPEAG. It allows the testing of a device’s total GPS air performance (chipset, mechanics, and antenna) in one test run.
SPEAG is pleased to announce the release of cSARD6 in Q4 2016, the smart SAR testing solution. cSARD6 integrates cSAR3D with DASY6 and adds new features to create a fully automated and powerful SAR compliance system. Twenty IT'IS Foundation, SPEAG, and ZMT co-workers convened for two-day retreat, 01 – 02 February 2016, held at the Hotel Frutt Lodge & SPA, in Melchsee-Frutt, Canton Obwalden. In response to numerous customer requests, SPEAG has developed the DAK Verification Kit for quick and easy verification of the Dielectric Assessment Kit system. The characterized liquid in the Verification Kit will be measured and compared to the imported target data after system calibration, ensuring reliable performance and results.
The future of SAR measurement technology was on full display on June 11 at an open forum organized by UL in Basingstoke, UK called “New Innovation SAR Measurement Using Array Systems”. SPEAG’s research partner, the IT'IS Foundation, and the Wireless Research Center of North Carolina have joined forces to define next generation phantom testing in the emerging market for wearable devices. SPEAG's full-body phantom "POPEYE" and other EM phantoms intended towards standards development will be deployed.

Shipments of cSAR3D Quad started in November 2014 and have far exceeded our expectations. SAR measurement of simultaneous transmisson is supported, as is base station simulator automation with both CMU200 and CMW500 from Rohde & Schwarz.
Significant progress at recent IEC 62209-3 meeting in San Francisco resulted in agreement on broad acceptance of vector array systems such as cSAR3D, and rigorous protocols for validation and uncertainty.

We are proud to announce a breakthrough in EM probe systems. The Time-Domain-Sensor (TDS) is the basis of our novel product line of high-performance active optical radio-frequency field sensor systems. The TDS concept allows the measurement of the full complex vectorial EM field distribution (amplitude and phase) in the time and frequency domains. First TDS probes for E- and H-field measurements in the 10MHz to 6GHz frequency range will become available in the next quarter.
Our first DAK shipments were made to customers in December. We are very pleased about the successful launch and strong customer interest in this new product line for high-precision dielectric measurements. Expansion of the frequency range and applications for the DAK product line will continue in 2012.

The laboratory is now fully operational and completed its first iSAR calibrations this month. iSAR calibration is performed using the same high-quality equipment and procedures as the SPEAG iSAR calibration laboratory in Zurich, with the additional benefit of much faster iSAR calibration service for many Asian customers.

SPEAG completed its development of greatly improved head and body tissue simulating liquids for the frequencies from 3500 to 5800 MHz. This new broad-band liquids are within ±5% to the target values and provide significantly improved long-time stability and reduction of the maintenance efforts. Therefore, they lower costs and improve reproducibility of the test results.
iSAR Quad is the largest and highest-resolution iSAR available. iSAR Quad is capable of scanning a 600 mm x 400 mm planar area with a 1 mm resolution, making it well suited for scanning laptops, tablet computers and other large devices.
The Golden Validation Device is a very stable, reliable and easy-to-use calibrated reference source for SAR and OTA measurements. It is a stand-alone device that can be used anywhere without connection to a network. The antenna is well-matched under different loading conditions to provide a reliable output.

The National Research Council Institute for Biodiagnostics (NRC-IBD) has teamed up with SPEAG to offer a unique software platform for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner design. The new EASY4 software release V4.6 extends the usage to fields with large peak-to-average (PAR) ratios by adaption to the improved probe modulation signal calibration and also includes setting of Access Levels. The changes to the user interface are minimal and old setup and calibration files are still compatible with this version.
A new iSAR2 software release is now available. This release is the result of the popularity of our ultra-fast SAR scanners (iSAR Head and iSAR Flat) and great suggestions from our customers. Version 2.1 of the iSAR software has several new features, including a new multi-iSAR interface, a smart Combiner feature, and full extension of the software for frequencies up to 6 GHz. It also includes enhancements to our existing features, such as an improved Python interface and enhanced control of the CMU200.
Zurich Med Tech, a sister company of SPEAG, has developed iSEG, a medical image segmentation tool specially designed to construct realistic 3D human or animal models for SEMCAD X from medical image data. iSEG, the most versatile medical image segmentation tool currently available, quickly and easily creates highly detailed 3D human or animal models based on CT and MRI images in standard image formats. The resulting models can be used to study electromagnetic exposure and induced heating in living tissue.
The final release of DASY52 is a major upgrade representing the next leap in quality compliance testing of mobile phones and general near-field evaluations. The main new improvements are in the new GUI, Report Generator, Ultra-Fast SAR Procedures, and Advanced Probe Response Linearization. Many more features that make the system compatible with the revised standards are expected to be released by the end of the year.
