Use of DASY6 for Devices Operating at 6 – 10 GHz

SPEAG’s latest Application Note provides guidance on how to best meet FCC’s
U-NII 6–7 GHz Interim Procedures.

With the opening of the Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure (U-NII) bands above 6 GHz, procedures for power density (PD) compliance testing in the reactive near-field are urgently needed.

Measuring closer than λ/5 from the source is a challenge for any compliance testing method. At the last TCB workshop on October 14, 2020, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) presented its new interim procedures for radiofrequency exposure evaluations of U-NII 6–7 GHz band portable devices. SPEAG lost no time and has already developed the corresponding measurement guidelines to empower DASY6 users to meet these FCC requirements. Our new Application Note “Interim Procedures for Devices Operating at 6 – 10 GHz” lays out in detail how to determine:

  • the absorbed PD with cDASY6 Module SAR V6.14+ and
  • the incident PD with cDASY6 Module mmWave V2.0+

The workflow will be further simplified and the assessment accuracy will be further improved with the release of Module mmWave V3-0 that is scheduled for 2Q2021.
