IT'IS at ICES TC95 Meeting in Rosslyn, VA, 14-16 Aug 2017

The International Committee on Electromagnetic Safety (ICES) Technical Committee 95 held their bi-annual meeting to update electromagnetic exposure standards. This meeting was hosted by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) in the Washington DC area. Approximately 40 international experts in medicine, science, engineering and public policy took part to present and discuss the latest scientific knowledge and to revise the IEEE C95 series of standards. Among the presenters at the meetings were Prof. Quirino Balzano from the University of Maryland and Dr. Mark Douglas from the IT’IS Foundation, who presented new IT’IS findings on accurate exposure assessment above 6 GHz that included (i) the scientific evidence why extending the frequency range to 10 GHz for specific absorption rate measurement is the only way to perform reliable exposure assessments below 10 GHz, (ii) new instrumentation for accurate power density measurement techniques as close as 2 mm from the transmitter, and (iii) the basis for reliable power density averaging techniques.

ICES TC95 is currently revising IEEE C95.1 with the aim of publication before the end of 2018.
