DASY8 Module SAR V18.0: Breakthrough in Multi-TX & TER Testing

DASY8 Module SAR Version 18 delivers reliable and accurate Multi-TX testing and total exposure ratio (TER) results without compromise, eliminating the need for time-consuming large-volume scans.

Modern mobile devices transmit across multiple frequency bands simultaneously – for example, when listening to music streamed over 5G new radio through Bluetooth earbuds.

The specific absorption rate (SAR) measurement procedures defined in applicable standards, such as IEC/IEEE 62209-1528:2020, for such devices are typically either fast but prone to significant overestimation, for example through summation of peak spatial SAR (psSAR) values, or accurate but time-intensive, for example through volumetric scanning.

With intelligent sampling of measurement points, the new smart spatially averaged SAR (sSAR)/spatially averaged absorbed power density (sAPD) feature in DASY8 V18.0 allows determination of sSAR and sAPD at the phantom surface within minutes – about 10× faster than the current implementation – with known uncertainty and no loss in accuracy.

TER evaluations for SAR and APD of up to 10 GHz can be performed directly in DASY8 Module SAR V18.0. The sSAR distributions at the phantom surface, including incident power density determined with the Module mmWave, can be exported as .csv files for TER evaluations. Simple spreadsheet software tools can then be used to sum the exported sSAR and spatially averaged incident power density (sIPD) distributions according to the TER rules.

The method received enthusiastic feedback when it was presented at the IEC standard meetings held in Busan, South Korea, in October 2025.

Watch this video to learn how to use DASY8 Module SAR V18.0 to perform TER evaluations.

Assessment of pAPD

DASY8 Module SAR V18.0 can also be used to compute the peak APD (pAPD) for measurements in the 6 – 10 GHz frequency range, as required by the IEC 63195-3 standard draft.

Further, the DASY8 Module SAR V18.0 update includes several small but valuable improvements made in response to user feedback:

  • Improved interface for remote control of base station simulators
  • An extended application programming interface
  • The ability to store and recall measurement grids in application-specific phantoms
