PP4SENSV1: Advancing Use-Case Testing of Proximity Sensors

The Phantom Package PP4SENSV1 combines three specialized phantoms for accurate and repeatable proximity sensor testing with DASY8 Module SENS for various materials and use cases.

SPEAG introduces Phantom Package PP4SENSV1, the latest addition to the DASY8 Module SENS system. This new package includes three specialized phantoms that enable highly accurate and repeatable proximity sensor characterization across a broad range of geometries, sensor technologies, materials, and use cases, as well as a positioning frame for streamlining workflows to reduce set up time and enhance measurement consistency.

New Phantom Package

The Phantom Package PP4SENSV1 consists of the following items:

  • ELI4SENSV1 Phantom Shell: This phantom simulates the ELI phantom – the standard used in specific absorption rate (SAR) testing, ensuring consistency between proximity sensor and SAR testing conditions – and can be filled with any of SPEAG’s tissue simulating liquids. This guarantees that proximity sensors are tested under the same loading conditions as SAR measurements, providing reliable and comparable results.

  • LSB4SENSV1 Lossy Silicone Block: This phantom replicates the geometry and dielectric properties of large body parts, such as the torso, legs, or arms. The material meets the requirements in the CTIA Test Plan for Wireless Device Over-the-Air Performance in the 3–6 GHz range and includes a skin-simulating coating that extends performance to beyond 100 GHz, making it ideal for proximity sensors consistent with over-the-air testing. The phantom bridges the gap between traditional capacitive sensor testing and the demands of radar-based technologies.

  • GPF4SENSV1 Generic Finger Phantom: Fabricated from the same material as the LSB4SENSV1, this phantom mimics the geometry of a human finger and enables precise testing of proximity sensors against small body parts.

  • Positioning Frame: This component provides a common reference position for all phantoms and a positioning repeatability better than 0.2 mm, ensuring quick and repeatable positioning of phantoms in DASY8 Module SENS and streamlining workflows to reduce set up time and enhance measurement consistency.

The Phantom Package PP4SENSV1 enables quick and accurate exchange of the phantom with a common measurement location on top of the cSAR3D Flat phantom.

Alongside the Phantom Package PP4SENSV1, SPEAG has released DASY8 Module SENS V2.0.2, the latest maintenance release of our sensor testing solution, which includes performance upgrades and user experience optimizations to take full advantage of the phantom package.

Design Meets Sustainability: Z43’s Green Solar Pergola at Zurich HQ

The new pergola at the Z43 headquarters at Zeughausstrasse 43 in Zurich transforms a previously underused balcony into a refined, functional extension of the building. Once a bare surface that amplified heat by reflections into the two‑story metal extension, the balcony is now shaded and reprogrammed as a high‑quality outdoor space.
