SPEAG Lab Expands ISO 17025 Accreditation to APD Probe and DAK-R Calibrations

The Swiss Accreditation Service has extended the scope of SPEAG’s ISO 17025 accreditation (SCS 0108) to include calibration of APD probes and system verification/validation sources, as well as DAK R calibration and low-loss thin-material dielectric characterization from 10 – 45 GHz.

The Swiss Accreditation Service (SAS) has extended the scope of SPEAG's ISO17025 calibration laboratory (SCS 0108). The lab now offers accredited calibration for absorbed power density (APD), low-loss dielectric materials, and split-cylinder resonators in the frequency range from 10 GHz up to 45 GHz.

The extension adds the following accredited capabilities, which are critical for compliance testing of the next generation of wireless devices and for the development of advanced materials:

  • Calibration of dosimetric electric (E-)field probes for APD measurement (EUAPDVx):
    10 GHz – 45 GHz, 20 V/m – 550 V/m, uncertainty of ±0.88 dB (k = 2). This delivers ISO 17025 accreditation for APD type approvals according to the latest draft of IEC63195-3 with DASY8 Module APD.

  • Calibration of APD system verification and validation sources:
10 GHz – 45 GHz, 1.0 W/m² – 800 W/m² with uncertainties of ±1.28 dB for peak APD (pAPD), ±1.33 dB for peak spatial APD (psAPD) averaged over 1 cm², and ±1.38 dB for psAPD averaged over 4 cm², enabling traceable system verification and validation of DASY8 Module APD and other APD measurement systems in line with the latest draft of IEC 63195-3.
  • Measurement of low-loss thin dielectric materials and calibration of DAK-R:
Broadband characterization of low-loss materials with thicknesses ranging from 0.05 mm to 3 mm is available at five frequencies between 10 GHz and 45 GHz, with uncertainties of 1% (k = 2) for relative permittivity (εᵣ < 50) and 0.0001 for loss tangent (tan δ < 0.01). Calibration of the DAK-R is now accredited according to ISO17025, making it the only commercially available system of its kind with accredited calibration for low-loss substrates. Based on the split-cylinder resonator method and compliant with IPC-TM-650 2.5.5.13, the DAK-R covers frequency five points within a single instrument, with nominal empty-cavity resonance frequencies of 10, 17, 26, 35, and 45 GHz.

With these additions, SPEAG provides the regulatory basis for FR2/FR3 APD compliance testing with DASY8 Module APD and supplies the telecommunications industry with traceable dielectric data of low-loss substrates for 6G, automotive radar, and high-speed digital applications.
