With 5G mmWave devices operating in frequency range 2 (FR2) and 6G development progressing toward frequency range 3 (FR3), test laboratories need consistent measurement infrastructure across both bands. Building on the 24 – 30 GHz FR2 coverage of V1.0 and the FR3 extension of V2.0, SPEAG has released DASY8 Module APD V3.0 to meet this need. It extends absorbed power density (APD) assessment up to 45 GHz, enabling device manufacturers, test laboratories, and regulators to cover 10 to 45 GHz with one system for compliance testing of current FR2 devices, as well as R&D and pre-compliance evaluations in line with emerging IMT-2030 requirements.
As with the FR3 phantoms released in V2.0, the new FR2 phantom–liquid combinations are based on Christ et al.'s (Bioelectromagnetics 2025, DOI: 10.1002/bem.70025) rigorous, validated skin model, which establishes a conservative absorption model of human skin. The latest draft of IEC 63195-3 adopts this model as the normative skin model for APD phantoms, providing an experimentally grounded, conservative representation of human skin electromagnetic absorption across FR3 and FR2.
Module APD V3.0 also integrates SPEAG's physics-informed artificial intelligence Sensor Model Calibration (SMC-AI), first introduced in DASY8 Module SAR V17.0. Instead of relying on pre-computed linearization parameters, our new SMC method derives these parameters on the fly from I-Q data, so Module APD can accurately assess any modulated signal, including user-defined 5G new radio and upcoming 6G signals.
The following hardware and software components are released in DASY8 Module APD V3.0:
Redesigned PHA24-30GV3 and the novel PHA30-45GV3 for absorbed power density assessments from 24 to 45 GHz.
All components are fully validated and designed for seamless integration into the DASY8 system, supported by our application programming interface (API) for the APD test workflow automation that device manufacturers and laboratories require.
Alongside Module APD V3.0, SPEAG has released a new Application Note on time-averaged incident and absorbed power density testing (TA-IPD / TA-APD). It provides practical guidance for evaluating devices that use time-averaged power control, from measurement setup to result interpretation.
With DASY8 Module APD V3.0, device manufacturers, test laboratories, and regulatory bodies gain the precision instrumentation needed for FR2 compliance testing, FR3 R&D, and pre-compliance testing ahead of commercial 6G deployment.
