SPEAG's MAGPy Version 2 handheld system
What is MAGPy Version 2?
The Magnetic Amplitude and Gradient Probe System (MAGPy) Version 2 is the most advanced solution to demonstrate compliance of wireless power transfer (WPT) systems and other near-field sources operating between 3 kHz and 10 MHz with national and international regulations. The robot-based system, DASY8/6 Module WPT, is the most accurate system on the market and enables direct comparison with the basic restrictions in the laboratory according to Clause 5.2.5 of IEC PAS 63184, FCC KDB 680106 D01 and ISED Canada SPR-002 below 4 MHz; for frequencies ≥4 MHz, DASY8/6 Module SAR is the most accurate solution. The MAGPy Version 2 handheld system is best suited to demonstrate in situ the compliance of devices with large coils (>100 mm) with the basic restrictions or with the reference levels. The handheld and the robot-based systems both offer significant advantages over other instruments, reducing overestimation of exposure larger than 40 dB. MAGPy Version 2 is a redesign of MAGPy Version 1 (discontinued) that makes the system compatible with the latest regulatory requirements.
MAGPy Version 2 |
The probe of MAGPy is constructed of 24 small time-domain (TD) loop sensors arranged on the corners of a cube for determining the magnetic (H/B-) field amplitude and gradient, and of two dipole sensors and a monopole sensor to measure the electric (E-) field amplitude simultaneously. The four lower H-field sensors are located just below the probe surface (Version 2), which enables measurements very close to the electromagnetic (EM) source. The incident fields measured are directly compared to the reference levels. The induced fields (E-field, current density, and specific absorption rate (SAR)) in the human body by the incident H-field are instantly determined using the novel generic gradient source model (GGSM) method defined in IEC PAS 63184. The exposure contribution from the incident E-field is also estimated using the latest published approximation formulas. The conservatively estimated induced fields are compared to basic restrictions. The system is more accurate and results in less overestimation (up to 40 dB) than conventional devices. MAGPy Version 2 is fully compatible with IEC PAS 63184. |
DASY8/6 Module WPT V2.6+ |
DASY8/6 Module WPT is the most accurate method to assess WPT exposure. It is based on the MAGPy Version 2 technology integrated in our DASY8/6 product line for high-precision 3D robot-based scanning. It is the only system for demonstrating compliance of WPT devices according to Chapter 8 of IEC PAS 63184 and enables fully automated compliance testing with FCC KDB 680106 D01 and ISED Canada SPR-002. DASY8/6 Module WPT V2.0+ directly uses the MAGPy Version 2 system with one of the H-field sensors replaced by the reference sensor that is connected to the probe. The MAGPy data acquisition system (MAGPy-DAS) is integrated with the MAGPy Version 2 probe and mounted to the DASY8/6 robot. The induced fields are assessed with Sim4Life’s Quasi-Static EM Solver (P-EM-QS) using only the measured data. The dedicated graphical user interface fully automates the testing workflow. The module determines compliance of WPT systems and magnetic field sources without overestimation. It is also more accurate than simulation-based evaluations as it is based on actual fields and does not require modeling of the WPT device. |
Applications |
The two systems accurately measure the EM field in the time-domain at any high-field configuration and are especially suited to evaluate human exposure. Applications include:
