First DASY8 System Shipped

SPEAG’s next generation modular electromagnetic near-field scanning platform DASY8 has been released with important new features. In addition, the software of three DASY8 Modules has been released, namely Module SAR V16-0, Module mmWave V2-4, and Module WPT V1-2. Module HAC2019, Module R&D, and the DASY8-3D extension will follow later this summer.

SPEAG has released DASY8!

Our new flagship measurement system is based on DASY6 and has been further optimized for both compliance testing and R&D measurements. It provides:

  • the greatest flexibility possible and simplified use thanks to its modular software;
  • faster measurements and enhanced evaluations with improved precision and less overestimation;
  • extended application program interfaces (API) for workflow automation;
  • easy adaptation for emerging technologies.

DASY8 Module SAR V16-0, Module mmWave V2-4, and Module WPT V1-2 have also been released and come with important new features, as listed below. They will also be made available for DASY6 users soon.

Precise and Flexible Hardware for Quicker Measurements

DASY8 is centered around Stäubli’s new high precision 6-axis robotic arm, the TX2 series, which provides the ideal combination of speed, rigidity, size, and accuracy. The Mounting Platforms (MP8) have been redesigned to provide improved mechanical rigidity and flexibility at the same time. The phantoms are now detachable and fixed at the correct location using a smart locking mechanism.

The robot arm is now interfaced with a new Quick Adapter Change System (QACSV1) that allows fast (<5s) and easy reconfiguration of the system, i.e., a change of probe system (DAE, MAGPy-DAS, third-party probes, etc.) or mounting the device positioner of DASY8-3D. The Electrical to Optical Converter (EOC8) further provides all interfaces (USB, Ethernet) for the entire functionality of the various modules. The Measurement Server (MS8) has increased computation power, enabling smarter planning of robot movements to further reduce measurement time.

Application-Specific Software Modules

The DASY8 software has five different modules. Each module has been optimized for a specific application:

  • Module SAR is optimized to demonstrate compliance with local and whole-body Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) limits from 4 MHz to 10 GHz and Absorbed Power Density (APD) from 6 GHz to 10 GHz;
  • Module mmWave is optimized to demonstrate compliance with the incident PD limits from 6 GHz to 110 GHz as close as 2 mm from the Equipment Under Test (EUT);
  • Module WPT is optimized to demonstrate compliance of magnetic field sources (e.g., wireless power transfer (WPT)) operating from 3 kHz to 4 MHz with reference levels limits and basic restrictions;
  • Module HAC2019 is optimized to effectively demonstrate hearing aid compatibility (HAC) with IEEE C63.19-2019;
  • Module R&D is optimized to perform user-specific scans and data processing with SPEAG's own probes as well as those of third parties.

Two additional DASY8 products will be released later this year:

  • DASY8-3D, which combines the speed of cSAR3D with the precision and versatility of DASY8;
  • DASY8 Module AIMD (Active Implantable Medical Devices) from our partner company ZMT Zurich MedTech AG.

All modules include the latest and most advanced high-performance-computing (HPC) enabled reconstruction and evaluation algorithms of Sim4Life. SPEAG is committed to continuing to bridge the gap between measurements and simulations to create even more powerful compliance and R&D tools.

Module SAR V16-0: Easy Multi-TX Evaluations

SPEAG has rewritten the SAR postprocessor to semi-automate the evaluation of a device that can transmit on multiple bands simultaneously. The measurements can be performed on different DASY6 and/or DASY8 systems. Combining SAR results from different bands is done via postprocessing only, i.e., without the need for additional measurements. This has proven to be the most efficient workflow to prove compliance without any significant overestimation. Check out the video below to experience how easy Multi-TX evaluations have now become:

The most important new features and improvements of Module SAR V16-0 are:

  • Extended API option for the further automation of measurements. The scanning commands now support additional parameters such as EUT offsets. The set of tutorials has been reviewed and the examples have been made more interactive;
  • Improved probe sensor linearization verification using our Modulation and Audio Interference Analyser (MAIA);
  • Simplified handling of Tissue Simulating Liquids (TSL) for measurements in the 6 GHz to 10 GHz frequency range;
  • Modernized Graphical User Interface (GUI).

Module mmWave V2-4

Besides including various bug fixes, the postprocessing algorithms of Module mmWave V2-4 have been updated to the latest version of Sim4Life V6.2 so that cubic evaluations as required by the Japanese regulators are possible in addition to spherical ones.

The upcoming release, Module mmWave V3-0, will also offer a reconstruction of equivalent sources on the outer shell model of the devices. The device model can be created as a simplified device or imported as a computer aided design (CAD) model of the actual device. This means that evaluations are now also possible for non-planar surfaces and at distances closer than λ/5, overcoming two of the major limitations that existed so far. Furthermore, the new procedure will simplify the testing.

Module WPT V1-2

SPEAG also released DASY8 Module WPT V1-2 which further simplifies compliance testing of small to medium sized magnetic field sources by providing:

  • Flexible volume scan options for various types of magnetic field sources;
  • Easy setup of the EUT, probe positing and improved saving/restoring options;
  • Improved performance for grid creation and visualization and advanced notification options (e.g., estimation of scan size, duration, etc.).
