IT’IS and SPEAG Labs Accredited Per ISO 17025

The SPEAG Calibration Laboratory has had its ISO 17025 accreditation renewed by the Swiss Accreditation Service. Additionally, we are excited to announce that the Test Laboratory of our research partner, the IT’IS Foundation, has been granted accreditation for implant testing and electromagnetic exposure evaluations for the first time.

The Swiss Accreditation Service has granted the IT’IS Foundation Test laboratory ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation for physical testing of medical devices and implants, dielectric measurements and wireless device. In parallel, the SPEAG Calibration Laboratory for Electric Field, Magnetic Field and SAR Sensors and Dielectric Measurement Instrumentation, which has been ISO 17025 accredited by SAS since September 2004, has been granted a renewal until September 2029.

The IT’IS Testing Laboratory offers comprehensive testing services as part of its Customized Research program. The scope of the ISO 17025 accreditation includes:

Radiofrequency safety of medical implants in patients undergoing magnetic resonance imaging per ISO 10974 and ASTM F2182, leveraging ZMT validation hardware, Sim4Life, and the FDA-qualified MDDT;
Specific absorption rate (SAR), induced electric (E-)field, and power density of wireless devices, with DASY and cSAR3D, per all relevant standards;
Incident E- and magnetic (H-)fields of wireless devices from 3 kHz to 110 GHz, with DASY, per all relevant standards;
Dielectric characterization of materials with DAK(S) and DAK-TL

The ISO/IEC 17025 standard, “General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories” is the main standard used by testing and calibration laboratories in order to be deemed technically competent. ISO 17025 accredited laboratories demonstrate that they operate competently, impartially, and consistently; and implement quality systems and employ validated test methods to consistently produce valid, traceable, and reproducible results. Laboratories that conform to ISO 17025 also operate in accordance with the principles of ISO 9001.
