Shorting Block-12/3.5/1.2E

The accuracy of the short circuit measurement is important for measurement precision. The short circuit materials consist of a shorting block and a copper strip. The high-quality shorting block provided applies pressure to ensure excellent and repeatable contact between the copper strip and the probe. An advantage of this arrangement is that the metal surface that provides the short circuit can be moved or replaced to achieve good electrical contact to establish a short circuit between the inner and outer conductors of the probe.

Probe Stand

The probe stand should be adjusted with the probe positioned high enough for the material under test to be measured by bringing it up under the probe, rather than by lowering the probe into the material under test. The arm position of the stand can be adjusted after loosening the black knob at the elbow of the arm. The stand should be adjusted so that the lower arm is approximately vertical and the upper arm is approximately horizontal. The upper arm may be swung around so that it is over the base. Once the arm has been adjusted to the desired position, the knob is retightened to lock the position. The stand should be placed in front of the VNA, close enough to the VNA to allow the cable to be  connected the probe and to the VNA without excessive flexing.

MSS (Metallic Strip Set)

A copper strip used for the short circuit measurement must be clean and not oxidized to be able to make good electrical contact with the probe. To ensure good electrical contact, the surface of the copper strip should be cleaned if necessary with sandpaper to remove dirt, oxides, etc., and wiped with ethanol. Old copper strips should be discarded and replaced with new ones

The temperature of the load and material under test must be precisely known and carefully controlled for liquid measurements, as their dielectric parameters are sensitive to temperature. The supplied thermometer provides  a precise record of the temperature of the sample at the time of the calibration and measurement.
